if you pay for google one just for photos, look at immich

self-hosted google photos basically. phone backup app, face search, timeline, shared albums, all on your own machine.

been running it about 3 weeks on an old mini pc. the face search is scary good.

one tip from the lesson that I'd have missed: back up the database too, not just the photos folder. lose the database and you lose all the albums and faces even if the photos are fine
