Sell accessibility audits now the European Accessibility Act is law

The free scanners everyone uses can't see the barrier that costs shops the most: a keyboard user who can't reach Add to basket. Since 28 June 2025, EU law has required many online shops selling to EU consumers, UK ones included, to be usable by disabled customers. Find what the scanners miss with a keyboard and a free screen reader, and sell the report at a fixed price.

  • Three fixed-price packages checked against what UK testers actually charge, and a calculator for your real hourly rate
  • Outreach that follows UK rules and still gets read: one real barrier, no scare tactics, plus replies to every awkward question
Before you start
  • A Windows laptop with Edge or Chrome. NVDA (free) is the screen reader. On a Mac you can use the built-in VoiceOver instead
  • Optional, for scanning many pages at once: uv, from Install anything from GitHub
  • Some comfort reading HTML. You don't need to be a developer, but you'll look at page code every day
  • About 20 hours over a few weeks to learn the basics properly before you charge anyone

Find the barrier scanners miss, in five minutes

Before any law or theory: see with your own eyes the problem that makes this a paid skill.

  1. Download the kit (one zip) and unzip it, or just open the practice shop in Edge or Chrome. It's a sample candle shop, Hollow Oak Candles, with 17 problems built in.

    • Put your mouse out of reach.
    • Click once in the browser's address bar, then press Tab again and again, slowly. Watch where you are on the page.
    • Try to add a candle to the basket.
  2. You can't. Tab jumps from the menu to the newsletter box and the delivery form, and never lands on a single Add to basket button. You can't see where you are either, because the shop's CSS hides the focus outline. A customer who can't use a mouse can't buy anything here.

  3. Now press F12, open Lighthouse, tick only Accessibility and click Analyze page load. It flags missing labels, contrast and alt text, and says nothing about the basket. That gap, between what a scanner reports and what stops a real customer buying, is what owners pay you to close.

  4. Later in this mission, a short script runs the same Tab test on 50 product pages while you make a cup of tea. Here's what it says about the practice shop:

    Output
BLOCKER file:///C:/Users/you/Downloads/accessibility-audits-eaa/practice-shop.html Tab never reached Add to basket in 80 presses

CheckpointYou've tried to buy a candle with only the keyboard and couldn't, and you've seen that Lighthouse doesn't mention it.

Tab doesn't seem to move anywhere
Click once on the page itself (not a link), then press Tab. In Safari on a Mac, first turn on "Press Tab to highlight each item" in Safari's Advanced settings.
The page opens as text instead of a shop
Save the file and open it from your Downloads folder, or unzip the kit and double-click practice-shop.html.
