Find the duplicate photos eating your space, and clear them safely

Every WhatsApp photo you've saved is a smaller copy of one you already have. Krokiet finds those lookalikes plus every exact copy from old phone backups, ticks the spares for you, and sends them to the Recycle Bin so nothing is gone for good. In the example folder in this mission, 1.6GB of phone backups, it finds 609MB of exact copies in four seconds.

Download Krokiet (no installer)

Krokiet is the new app from the Czkawka project. It's a single file: download it and double-click.

  1. Czkawka (Polish for "hiccup") has been the go-to free duplicate finder for years. Its old app is being retired, and the project now ships a new one called Krokiet. Same engine, newer screen. Older guides you find online will show the old look.

  2. Go to the official releases page, github.com/qarmin/czkawka/releases ↗. Under the newest release, open Assets and download `windows_krokiet_on_windows_skia_opengl.exe` (about 63MB). That's the one the project itself recommends to beginners on Windows.

  3. Make a folder for it, for example Krokiet inside Documents, move the file there and double-click it. There's nothing to install and no admin prompt.

    TipWant to be sure the file is genuine? The release notes link to a VirusTotal scan of each file. In PowerShell, run the command below in the folder with the file and compare the long code with the one in the VirusTotal link. For version 12.0.2 it is 102d97dd...05554f.

Windows shows this for some apps that aren't signed. Click More info, then Run anyway, only for the file you downloaded from the official releases page above.
The window is blank, or it crashes on start
Your graphics driver may not like that build. Go back to the same release and try windows_krokiet_on_windows_femtovg_wgpu.exe instead. The release notes say to try a different build if one doesn't work.
