Install rembg

One command installs rembg in its own sealed box, so it can't break anything else on your PC.

  1. rembg is a free, open-source tool by Daniel Gatis (github.com/danielgatis/rembg ↗, MIT licence). It uses AI models to find the subject of a photo and delete everything else.

  2. We install it with uv. If you don't have uv yet, install it first, then open a new terminal:

    Windows (only if you don't have uv)
    winget install --id astral-sh.uv -e
    Mac / Linux (only if you don't have uv)
    brew install uv
    # or, without Homebrew:
    curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh
  3. Now install rembg. The --python 3.13 part matters: rembg's docs list Python 3.11 to 3.13 as supported, and uv fetches the right version for you, even if your PC has a newer one.

    Terminal
    uv tool install "rembg[cpu,cli]" --python 3.13
    Output
    ...
     + uvicorn==0.40.0
     + watchdog==6.0.0
     + yarl==1.25.1
    Installed 1 executable: rembg
  4. It takes about a minute and uses 502MB of disk. Check it worked:

    Terminal
    rembg --version
    Output
    rembg, version 2.0.85

uv puts its apps in a folder your terminal doesn't know about yet. Run uv tool update-shell, close the terminal, open a new one and try again.
